Getting my hair cut short at the salon shattered my confidence

I wanted to make a change and went to the hairdresser. But they cut it much shorter than I wanted and I literally can't recognize myself in the mirror. The way people look at me seems to be affecting my confidence too. How can I cope until my hair grows back, or am I taking this too seriously? Has anyone else felt this way before?

Last year, I experienced just that. My hair got really short while the hairdresser was doing a correction, and I was seriously down. During that time, I constantly wore scarves and headbands. They distract attention and give a bit of confidence too. It's tough for a few months, but it passes.

Ah, those looks! It feels like everyone is staring at my hair. But honestly, most people don't even notice. At one point, I stopped looking at myself in the mirror. I can say that this is how my inner relaxation began.

Yeah, but there's a problem here too. Did you clearly say how short the hairdresser can cut it? I mean, if you just said 'cut this much' and left it open-ended, you might also bear some of the responsibility for that 🤷‍♀️

In a body image crisis, we can all experience things like this. The main issue here is the meaning you attach to this situation. It can be a small trauma. Consulting a professional can be beneficial for processing your feelings 😳

Thank you so much for the answers, let me add a bit more detail. I had shown a picture to the hairdresser and said, 'Make it shoulder-length, don't cut it too short.' But they basically cut it at ear length. Since my hair is fine, it looks bad for now. A few people asked, 'Who did you get your hair cut by?' I couldn't even answer out of embarrassment.

So, have you ever gone back to the hairdresser to talk about this? Maybe next time they'll fix and style the asymmetrical cut in your hair. I mean, if they can fix it, why leave it like this? 😂

If you're getting a result other than what you allowed, there's a problem with it, meaning the competence or carelessness of your hairdresser should be discussed. You're paying for this. Let's make a clear decision about what we want, but there should be no forgiveness for mistakes made consciously.

I think it seems like there has been a bit of a lapse at the hair salon. Or, although I can't say it outright, maybe she made her own decision about a style that doesn’t suit you. I've had a similar experience where they just cut my hair as they pleased without saying anything. I hope there’s no bad intention.
