My cousin said it could be a cyst, I'm afraid of the doctor

I’ve had irregular periods in the last few months, sometimes they’re two weeks late and sometimes they come very early. While talking casually with my cousin, she said, “It could definitely be a cyst, you should get it checked out.” But the truth is, I’m really scared to go to the doctor. I’ve never been to a gynecologist. What if it’s something serious or if I feel really bad during the exam? What should I do in this case? Do you think it would be bad to delay it?

I think you shouldn’t procrastinate at all. There’s no need to be so afraid of going to the doctor; most women start with the same nervousness in gynecology. I had a cyst a while ago (they called it a chocolate cyst), and I was delaying going to the doctor too. But later it turned out that if I had sought early intervention, I would have dealt with it more easily. So, as you said, if there’s irregular menstruation, the doctor can speak clearly about it.

@elif86 I disagree, not every menstrual irregularity means there’s a cyst. Of course, it’s good to see a doctor, but your friend spoke so panic-inducing that it makes me wonder, are you worrying for nothing? Try to stay a bit calmer.

Why are you so afraid of going to the doctor? Is the examination uncomfortable, or are you worried about the results? I don’t understand.

@mehmet07 honestly, both the idea of the examination and the possibility of something serious coming up makes me uneasy. I guess it’s because I’ve never experienced it before. Also, I’m worried that if my family hears about it, they’ll keep talking about it.

There can be many causes of menstrual irregularity. Simple issues like hormonal changes, stress, or weight fluctuations can also trigger it. However, an ultrasound is necessary to rule out a cyst or any other condition. If not monitored, it can sometimes grow and cause pain. It’s common to feel anxious about examinations, but if you find a good doctor, they will ease your worries. Usually, the initial diagnosis is made through an ultrasound anyway, so it’s not something to be too afraid of.

@soran you said it would get complicated if your family finds out, but this is about your health! If something serious comes up, will it be better later? I think you should think about your own comfort and not worry about what they might say.

@nazciik you’re right, but you never know. A menstrual irregularity can sometimes turn out to be something simple, but it can also be serious, and ignoring it can be really risky.
