My cousin said I need to wear a thong, and I got tense.

I have an engagement at the end of the month, and I excitedly bought the dress, but on fitting day I realized the fabric is so thin that even the slightest outline of a pad shows. My cousin flat-out said, “Just wear a thong and use a tampon, problem solved,” and my older sister keeps insisting that everyone does that for weddings and big events, but my first two days are really heavy and I’m scared of leaking. I feel safer in regular cotton underwear, but then it seems like the look will be bad. How have you dealt with this? I’m honestly wondering whether anyone is actually comfortable with it, or if everyone just puts up with it because they have to.

I had the same experience once; the dress was made of a thin satin-like material. No matter what I used, either the marks showed, or I ended up feeling extremely uncomfortable. In the end, I gave up and had a lining added to the dress. I wish the fabric had been a little thicker.

Okay, but why didn’t you try the dress on from the beginning? Did you wait until the fitting day to notice how thin it is? Aren’t you a little late? :woman_shrugging:

@camkenari it actually didn’t look so transparent when I first got it. That thin appearance showed up under light, it looks like a small flaw but it’s noticeable anyway. That’s why I’m looking for a solution.

@soncaykaldi the star job is also tricky and most tailors don’t adjust this kind of dress well. I would try a tampon + thong, you’ll endure it for a day after all.

If you’re saying your period is heavy, just using a tampon might not be enough against leakage; you can try using a thin daily pad or period underwear for extra protection. Those kinds of products are discreet and can be a good solution against accidents

I wouldn’t wear a thong for something like this, no way

People have been imposing things like exams under the pretext of weddings for years. If you’re so uncomfortable, why can’t you just say no? I mean, what would happen if the mark was slightly visible?

@benbisorayim the special period outfit you mentioned can only be used with a tampon, right? I’ve heard it doesn’t provide the same comfort as a pad. If the person in question feels more comfortable with a pad, it might not suit them at all.

When it comes to the topic of engagements, there’s a problem in those places; everyone is fixated on aesthetic obligations. I don’t think it needs to be exaggerated this much, don’t go for a solution where you can’t dance comfortably anyway
