My fiancé wants to take out a loan for the wedding venue

My fiancé wants to take a loan to have a big and extravagant wedding like we envisioned. But I don’t want to start our marriage with debt. With costs for gold, the venue, food, etc., expenses are already high. He thinks our savings won’t be enough, but I believe we can have a more modest celebration. He’s being relaxed about it, saying we can pay it back later. Do you think it’s sensible to go into debt for a big wedding like this?

You say "We'll pay later," and that sentence just took me out of myself. Is it really that easy to manage those debts later on?

If my daughter were my daughter, I would never allow it. Marrying with debt means inviting conflicts from the very beginning. Be clear with your fiancé.

A big wedding isn't mandatory for marriage, but it seems to have turned into a power play here. It feels like the guy is trying to convince you by framing the expenses as something you 'have to' do.

Who first came up with this idea? Are families involved in this as well? Or is it just completely the fiancée's dream?

Don't do it. Choose a small organization. The marriage loan business is really difficult, especially with these interest rates. Marriage is already going to be full of expenses 🙂

In a similar situation, we had a big wedding at my spouse's insistence. The result? 2 years of bonus credit card payments. If you ask us now, we say, 'we should have just done something simple.'

@kirmizikazak, why couldn’t you say ‘no’ to your wife? You can’t accept it and then complain later; it doesn’t work like that.
