I had an argument with my fiancée's mother, it's very complicated!

My sister had a serious argument with my fiancée's mother over something. Everyone has come to an agreement, but I feel stuck in the middle. Shouldn't we really avoid such situations before marriage? What should I do? Both sides will meet, but how should I act before that?
