I mean, did he imply that my promotion was related to this, or was he just saying something random? What would you understand if you heard it? I really donât know what to do.

It seemed unrelated to the promotion to me. They might have been joking, but it could have been a bad coincidence; how many people actually say things like that implying a promotion? 
tone of speech matters. if there was a light laugh, itâs teasing, but if they said it seriously, itâs complicated. what do you think?

I think you should share the situation with HR. Even if you donât want to express it directly, you can frame it as âthere are some disturbing free comments.â You can also find support if you ask other managers in the company.
