The patron leaned down and said, 'It would look nice if you tied your hair up.'

The other day, Patronum said in a meeting in front of everyone that having my hair down didn’t look professional. She said, "It would look better if you tied your hair up." In that moment, I didn’t know what to say, and everyone else was silent too. I’m also worried if this will be limited to just hair. Has anyone ever criticized you like that at work? Should you react, or should you just ignore it?

I think tying your hair back really gives a professional impression in the workplace. I've always heard that loose hair is not well-received in formal places. Also, since the boss is male, it's clear that he probably didn't like the messy hair of a woman.

@mahrem_saf do you really believe this? So, it’s unprofessional if a woman has her hair down? This is just pure appearance-based judgment, hair style doesn’t concern anyone 😬

Has the patron done this before? I mean, did they only say this in this meeting, or have they been criticizing you like this before? 🤦‍♀️

@ogrenci actually this isn't the only time, the other day they told me, "if you choose neater clothes it would be better" because the pants I wore were a bit baggy. So it's not just once 😅

Such comments may seem polite at first, but they are considered an invasion of personal space from a labor law perspective. One should focus on job performance, not hair or clothing. It would be good to talk to human resources; even if you don't want to grow the job, you should express any discomfort.

The boss might be right, because work requires a bit of order and discipline. Some things are not tolerated in society. In the end, showing a lot of skin can be distracting in the workplace. I don't think he forced anyone, he just gave a warning.
