This week we had to stay late at work to meet deadlines. After work, my boss turned to me in front of everyone and said, ‘Let’s go have a drink, we have things to discuss.’ But he didn’t make such a proposal to anyone else. I couldn’t tell if it was out of sincerity or if he had another intention. I was torn between whether to go or not. What would you do?

7I think you should accept the offer and go, but I wouldn’t drop my phone. Send your location to my friends, and let me know right away if something feels off. Maybe they’re really going to discuss something important related to work, but it’s weird that they didn’t invite the others.
Why did they ask it openly in front of everyone? If they had a private issue, wouldn’t they just message on WhatsApp? Did they say it openly to avoid blowing things out of proportion? Normally, would they suggest such things?
@erkek_bakisi I can say that he has never done something like this before, this is the first time. But it seems like he was looking too intensely with his eyes.
@ogrenci you talk about location and all that, but why can’t you just say ‘No, I’m not available’? You’re making your life difficult by being suspicious of everything. I think it’s easier to say it as a woman, just be clear ![]()
In such situations, maintaining professional boundaries is important. The boss’s proposal may be in a work context, but one-on-one conversation requests can be sensitive. If you decide to go, it makes sense to choose a public setting and limit the meeting to a specific duration. Being in an ambiguous environment is risky.
@mesafe_emekci not everyone can handle speaking this clearly, there are different personalities. Also, being able to say ‘no’ is not as easy as you think. The moment they feel emotional or authoritative pressure, things get complicated.
Don’t go, even if it’s not as you think, it looks bad. If you really have to go, arrange something else, like say ‘my friend is waiting’ or something. Just be more subtle at the beginning ![]()
