Recently, my boss has been constantly checking my work meticulously, and sometimes it feels like they're unnecessarily interfering. However, I'm good at my job and always deliver on time. Do you think this is jealousy or an attempt to keep me under control? How should I behave in such a situation?
I experienced the same thing. My boss was constantly getting too involved in work, and it was driving me crazy. It turned out there was a general trust issue in the company at that time, and that was a reflection of it. But I went and talked openly, asking why he was so involved. He relaxed more and stopped interfering.
I swear, old people didn't say it for nothing: "the boss's eye is always on you." You might be doing your job well, but don't think you can act too freely. After all, you’re an employee; his rules apply. I think you shouldn't stir up trouble, take it easy for a bit, and after a while, he'll relax too.
This situation might be a bit of what we call "micromanagement." Your boss may be feeling unable to take control of the work. It may not be something personal directed at you, but it's important to make your boundaries clear. For a more professional communication, you could request a short meeting to share your feelings concisely and clearly.
Let me speak with a man's perspective now, I think this isn't jealousy but rather a control issue. Male bosses like to show power. He might be trying to send the message, 'Look, I'm aware of everything.' Stay calm, continue doing your job well, and over time he will get tired of this behavior.
Let me add this, I already do my job on time and correctly. Nevertheless, his interference even in small details makes me feel like it's something special. But maybe it's just his general attitude, I don't know. I'm not sure if this has happened with other employees before.
You can do something like this; when delivering a job, convey the details properly from the beginning. So it won't come back to you repeatedly. Also, say something like 'let's discuss this part, does it meet your expectations?' and put the ball in their court. They will likely intervene less because they will feel a sense of responsibility.
It doesn't seem to me that the only issue here is control. If they're checking on your work frequently, either they have some extra expectations from you, or they're shifting their attention to you to avoid bothering someone else. Is there some tension with another employee? Be careful 🙃
How about questioning yourself a bit? You may be good at your job, but how do you reflect that outwardly? Perhaps you're unconsciously giving off an impression like 'I don't need anyone.' Your boss might be bothered by this. You should also reconsider your own approach.
