I argued with my mom for wearing black underwear during my period

I prefer to wear black underwear during my period because I don't know, it just feels more practical. But the other day, my mom scolded me, saying, 'You've completely dressed in black, you'll attract the evil eye.' We seriously got into an argument about it. Do you think choosing black underwear can become such an issue? Or is it just my mom's superstition talking?

I can say I experienced the same thing. When my mom saw me wearing black underwear, she asked, 'Are you preparing for a funeral?' At first, we argued about it, but then she got used to it. I think you should explain the reason clearly; they come from a superstitious perspective here.

I experienced the same thing myself. When I wore black, my mom was saying "I hope we receive some good news" and praying at first. Then I explained why I was wearing black, and she felt relieved. Sometimes, explanations can be a solution.

Honestly, I can somewhat agree with your mom. In our culture, black has always had negative connotations during those times. If she says it’s superstition, I think it’s not baseless. You should also add a bit of white or something like that to balance it out.

Listening to what my mom said was really a strange experience. Especially if you woke up in the morning with period cramps, it gets really annoying. I honestly don't want to deal with such things when I'm looking for practical solutions during that time.

There is no scientific basis for the idea that black brings bad luck. However, having such superstitions in the family can cause conflict. In such situations, it is beneficial to make clear and understanding explanations without escalating the conflict.

Let me add that my mom generally believes in superstitions anyway, but this time she really came down hard on me. She said, 'Once you move into your own place, you can do whatever you want,' and the discussion really shifted there. Can it really be that serious? 🫠

I think it's not the black laundry here, but the fact that it's bothering you to stand up to her like an adolescent. When she says things like 'Get out of your house,' it's a sign of other emotional issues. It seems like the topic has exploded due to too many accumulated things.

Here, in our culture, even menstruation is something that should be hidden. Your mother is actually saying something to protect you. You should review your clothing, style, and everything; she knows something. In the long run, your mother is always right.

Let me give you a direct recommendation: If you don't want your mom to worry, try dark blue or burgundy. They are both practical and don’t stand out as much as black. But nobody’s opinion is more important than your comfort. Be clear about that 🙂
