I took a boat trip during my period

Today I was on a boat tour with my boyfriend, but unfortunately, I got my period. Just when we were about to enjoy the sea, I feel a bit anxious. I'm wondering how I'll feel in the water; I've never experienced this before. Does anyone have any suggestions? How can I get through this situation?

A tampon ensures your comfort, and once you learn how to use it, there's no problem at all in the sea or anything. It might feel a little weird at first, but it's not that difficult. Just pay attention to your hygiene, change it right after using the bathroom, and so on. 😬

You've said your girlfriend only said 'just swimming', so why does it make you uneasy? She's with you after all, so why would that bother her?

Actually, my girlfriend wasn't upset; she just realized that I was irritated.

@uykuarasi everyone normalizes this so much, but it's not easy for every woman to get used to. It can be quite difficult for someone who has never tried a tampon in their life.

It is fine to swim with a tampon during your period, yes, but make sure that the water does not come into contact with the vagina for a long time. There could be a risk of infection aside from normal discharge. Be especially careful in open water sources.

Everyone is saying it's a buffer, but some people don't take into account personal boundaries, habits, etc. I think we should leave it to the person writing, don't force it.

That's not possible. If not swimming solves the problem, then that's fine.

I was on vacation once, and I got my period by the sea. I used a tampon, but you have to change it frequently. It’s not an easy thing, so just stay in the water for a short time.

@camkenari there’s no need to provide such exaggerated information, not everyone gets an infection. Many people go in and out of the sea, and if you're careful, nothing will happen.

Has anyone used a menstrual cup instead of a tampon? I felt a bit more comfortable with it. It also seems like the risk of leakage is lower, but I guess not everyone tries it.
