For irregular periods

Recently, my period dates have been very irregular; some months I don’t have it at all, and sometimes it’s very heavy. I haven’t been able to establish a proper routine. Honestly, I’m scared to go to the gynecologist, both in terms of privacy and because I might hear something bad. Could this all be related to stress, or should I take it seriously and make an appointment with a doctor right away? Has this happened to you? How did you solve it?

I’ve had a similar situation. There were some months when I didn’t get my period at all, and then I went to the doctor and found out I have polycystic ovary syndrome. Honestly, don’t delay too much, because if certain things are noticed early, they can be managed more easily. Going to a gynecologist can seem scary at first, but your privacy is always protected, so just relax.

Make an appointment with a female obstetrician directly, you can choose a female doctor to feel more comfortable. Usually, they’ll suggest an ultrasound during the first examination; it’s not harmful, they’re just looking and providing feedback. Don’t think of anything bad, regular check-ups are important.

How many months have you been like this? Were the dates regular before? You didn’t stop taking any medication or anything, right? It might be something hormonal; I think you shouldn’t immediately connect it to stress without clarifying.

I kept postponing just like you, then when my period became very heavy, I couldn’t stand it any longer and went to the doctor. A problem related to the thyroid was found. Yours could also be related to stress or the thyroid. Don’t hesitate, I recommend seeing a good doctor.

Privacy is important, of course, but you should consider your health. Have you shared this situation with your family? Maybe your mom or a relative can guide you. If we don’t trust gynecologists, we can’t trust anyone.

Aren’t you delaying a bit too much? If the problem is getting worse, being afraid of a doctor isn’t the solution. Plus, if something bad is going to come up, it’s definitely better to know about it early. Ignoring a problem doesn’t make sense at all.

There can be many causes for irregular menstruation: stress, hormonal imbalance, or an organic condition. However, in some cases, a diagnosis can be made quickly even with an ultrasound or blood test. I recommend consulting a gynecologist without hesitation.

Let me add this: It’s been like this for about 5-6 months. At first, I didn’t think much of it, but the last two months have either been non-existent or extremely painful. I haven’t used any medication or anything else during this time. I’m still considering the idea of going to the doctor.

No one should encourage you to take your health lightly under the guise of privacy or other excuses. Menstrual issues are not a ‘normal’ thing; take care of your body. Taking action for your own health shouldn’t bother anyone. Be aware of your own boundaries and trust your doctor.
