Should I hide my irregular period from my mom?

My periods have been completely irregular for 3 months; sometimes it’s 35 days, sometimes 25. If I tell my mom, she will definitely take me to the doctor, but honestly, I’m afraid to go to a gynecologist. The thought of having an exam for the first time scares me. Do you think this level of irregularity is normal? Should I open up to my mom?

I experienced something just like that in high school too. My period was so irregular, it turned out I had polycystic ovary syndrome. If I hadn’t told my mom, it would have been much worse because I wouldn’t have been brave enough to go to the doctor by myself. Just tell her, I’m sure your mom will support you.

So there’s actually nothing to be anxious about when it comes to visiting the gynecologist. The first examination is usually done via abdominal ultrasound, not an internal examination. Plus, going with your mom can give you confidence. Irregular periods can sometimes indicate something serious, so don’t ignore it.

I think you should go directly to your family doctor, without hiding it from your mom. They will also refer you to a gynecologist if needed. Don’t let the idea of visiting the doctor scare you; your condition might even be understood with a simple hormone test.

So guys, there’s really something I don’t get. Why is the first thing everyone does when they have a problem to go to the doctor? Maybe she’s really just stressed out, or maybe it’s a simple vitamin deficiency. Why do you have to rush to the doctor for a solution? Just take care of yourself for a while without telling your mom.

In the menstrual cycle, there is an acceptable range of 21-35 days, but if it’s fluctuating between 25 and 35 as you mentioned, hormonal testing may be necessary. An endocrinologist can also help in this area, don’t just think of it in terms of a gynecologist.

Thank you all so much, I’ve noticed something new. I’ve lost weight in the past few months and I’ve started eating a bit less. Could this be related? When I tell my mom, where should I start, should I mention the doctor right away?

Honestly, losing weight in recent months is a significant factor. Menstrual irregularity is often triggered by such sudden changes. Tell your mom and explain the weight issue to her; she can guide you. Don’t make it a big deal, but don’t ignore it either.

You just wrote about the weight issue, and in my opinion, it might be related to your diet or maybe whether you are using any supplements. If you’re doing something on your own, I think your mother should know; after all, no one will blame you.

I’ve heard that if your period becomes very irregular, it might be because of pregnancy or something like that. But of course, like you said, you’ve still had your period after 25 days. It’s best to get it checked, but if the doctor does something, can it hurt you immediately?
