My period is delayed, I secretly took a test

My period is two weeks late again. This isn’t normally how it goes, but for some reason, I’m starting to feel a bit panicky. I remember that my partner and I have been using protection lately, but you know how your mind can play tricks on you… I went a little crazy and bought a test from the pharmacy, but what if it’s positive? I’m about to take the test and my hands are shaking. Is there anyone who has gone through something like this? How did you manage to stay calm?

The same thing happened to me. When my period was late, I took a test right away, and I was shaking all the way home from the pharmacy. When taking it, it really feels like two results might come out at once; it’s literally a heart attack moment.

I was also protecting myself with my girlfriend once, but there was a delay, and at that moment, I was freaking out thinking, ‘What if there’s been a mistake?’ I later realized that even stress can disrupt the menstrual cycle. Your delay might be completely psychological.

I don’t know, but the part where you say “I remember we were protected” seems a bit vague. Are you sure about that? Because this suspicious mindset seems to be suggesting you’ve got doubts about something. Maybe you need to talk to them about it

Honestly, it feels very wrong to me that such things are done in secret. Taking tests, making decisions, all of it should be individual, but both people need to behave closely. Don’t carry this burden alone; talk openly with your partner.

Doing the test with the first urine in the morning increases its accuracy. Menstrual delays can sometimes be due to irregular ovulation; even if the test result is negative, it is beneficial to see a gynecologist.

I took a test and it came back negative; I was already feeling a bit relaxed, but I still panicked. My period still hasn’t started; I think I’ll go to the doctor this weekend. Those who say it could be due to stress might be right.

I think the real issue is why you were alone in a situation where you would panic so much with your partner. Whether it’s your period or not, decisions like this are both of your responsibilities. It’s sad that you felt you had to take the test in secret.
