How will I explain my irregular period to my family?

My period dates have been completely different for the last two months, total chaos. I’m really confused, but I don’t have the courage to go to the gynecologist because I’m afraid my family will find out. My mom is very sensitive about period topics, and I’m scared she’ll overreact and make a big deal out of it. How can I bring this up with my family in a more comfortable way? Or should I just keep it completely secret?

Honestly, you need to tell your mom somehow because irregular periods are not something simple. Look, I used to hesitate to tell my mom when I was younger too, but seriously, things get worse the longer you stay silent. My mom would get really worked up about it, but then they get used to it eventually. At worst, she might sulk for a couple of days, but that’s it.

I swear, I had a similar thing happen to me last year. My period dates were all over the place. I was scared, but when I went to the gynecologist, it turned out to be something simple; it was stress-related. I think you should find a way to see a doctor before opening up to your mom, because maybe there’s not even anything serious going on.

I get it, you’re worried about your mom, but keeping it a secret doesn’t make sense to me. Families should be a part of this. Besides, the more you hide it from her, the bigger her reaction will be if she finds out one day. So I think you should be honest from the start.

Menstrual irregularities can occur for many reasons. Stress, hormonal imbalances, and thyroid issues are some of them. Is there a significant change in appetite or excessive weight gain/loss? I recommend a direct hormone test, as waiting can sometimes worsen the situation. In such cases, getting medical support is essential.

Now a few people have written that I should tell my mom, but honestly, I’m still hesitant. Because my mom takes things seriously and will go hard on me. But I realize that it’s necessary, should I take a friend with me when I go to the doctor?

First of all, you can go to the doctor alone; it’s not necessary to be with someone. But if you tell your mom about it later, she might understand the situation better. Also, there’s the fact that irregular periods are not something to be taken lightly; postponing it wouldn’t be reasonable at all.
