Which is more suitable during your period, a tampon or a pad?

Friends, I always used pads for hygiene during my period, but a friend who switched to tampons says they are so comfortable that she keeps recommending them. I'm uncertain whether to try them, but they seem difficult to use. What do you prefer, and what are the pros and cons?

I swear I've used pads for a long time, but for the last 1-2 years I've switched to tampons. Especially in the summer when you're swimming, it's extremely comfortable. At first, it felt a bit weird to use, but you get used to it. If you pay attention to hygiene, I don't think you'll have any problems.

Honestly, I've never been able to use tampons; they were always uncomfortable for me. Pads feel safer. When you sleep at night, you don't have to worry about them, either. Of course, it's worth trying; everyone has different comfort levels.

I think you shouldn't trust your friend who suggests tampons that much. Everyone has different methods that work for them. You can't just use a tampon once and say 'ah, I feel comfortable now'. You need to understand this on your own through some experimentation.

As long as a tampon is hygienic, it is a safe method, but it should not be left in for more than 4-6 hours. Otherwise, it can lead to serious conditions like toxic shock syndrome. If you are prone to infections, a pad may be a safer option. It can disrupt your vaginal flora.

Thank you for the suggestions. I want to ask this: sometimes I feel extremely uncomfortable on pads due to leakage, and with tampons, I'm afraid I won't be able to clean properly. Did you experience such issues on your first try?

I had put the tampon in wrong on my first try; it was bothering me while walking and stuff. Apparently, I didn't fit it properly. But once you place it correctly, it really feels like it's 'not there' at all. Don't worry, you get used to it after a few tries.

I think your friend did a great job at marketing. There's really no such thing as everyone getting used to it, right? Either it really suited them well, or is there something else making them give up on it? Just trying it out without knowing 🫠

Instead of discussing whether we should stick a tampon in, let's talk about why we're still facing so many difficulties with this natural process. Isn't the lack of alternatives in women's hygiene products and their high prices putting us under pressure?
