My girlfriend thought I got lip fillers

The other day, my boyfriend looked closely at my face and said, 'I thought you got lip fillers.' I couldn't figure out if he was trying to compliment me or not, but then he added, 'Fillers are being done on everyone these days.' Is this actually a critique of my natural lips? Or have beauty standards really changed like this? How should I think about it, in your opinion?

I think this can be considered a compliment. After all, he has looked closely at your face and noticed something. He sees your beauty in the tiniest details. Many people wouldn't even notice what's happened to your lips, but your boyfriend is different. Maybe the way he expressed it isn't very charming, but his intention doesn't seem to be bad.

So, is the sentence 'I thought you had lip fillers' a compliment or what? They've literally compared your natural state to fillers, saying it's 'natural but somehow fake.' It's interesting that you perceive that as praise. I think you should consider why you didn't react to it. 😅

I want to ask you something... has your girlfriend made suggestive comments like this before? For example, not just related to your lips, but about other physical features as well. Or is this the first time she said something like this?

@erkek_bakisi actually not for the first time, for example, once they said 'your nose is very nice, like it's been operated on.' but back then it felt more positive, now I'm not so sure.

Honestly, this "everyone is getting fillers anyway" comment is quite ugly. It normalizes comparing one’s natural state to a standard achieved through aesthetic procedures. Setting aside the issue of who has the right to interpret the female body this way, there is a problem with the tone. It could have undermined her confidence.

imagine saying "your nose looks like it had surgery" or "your lips look like they've had fillers"... I mean, they're saying something but you can't be sure what they really mean. classic male communication. it's like a compliment but also adds a hint of criticism 😳

@beden_savunucu I disagree with you. Most of these guys talk like that, they may be emphasizing beauty standards but not to hurt directly. I mean, their intentions aren’t necessarily bad, I think it’s being exaggerated unnecessarily.

You need to say this directly and clearly. Just say, 'I'm happy with my natural self, but your comments are confusing me.' Let them know what you think. Otherwise, you'll just blow it up in your mind like this 🤦‍♀️.
