The other day, while I was having a video call with my girlfriend, I had a clay mask on my face. When I said that it was perfectly normal, she suddenly said, “Why aren’t you posting this on your story? People are influenced by things like this.” I replied, “These are private things, why should I share them?” But she said, “Everyone shares, the results are better.” I don’t think it’s right to share every moment of my life on social media, but her suggestion confused me. How do you view things like this in a relationship?

8I went through the same thing! My ex would constantly insist, “Share this, post that.” At first, you think they’re just showing interest, but over time, nothing remains private. One day, when they wanted to take pictures of one of our most intimate moments, I broke up… I mean, set your boundaries clear from the beginning, or it will cause issues later.
This might not be a normal situation. So does he do this at other times too? I mean, does he always pressure you to share these special moments?
@canan35 Actually, not always, but very much involved with social media. A few times, he has said things like ‘post a story’ and that made me a little uncomfortable.
@esra67 I think you’re overreacting. Ultimately, friends might want to share someone they love; I don’t understand what’s wrong with that? Nowadays, everyone puts everything out there anyway, even romanticism could be like this ![]()
The determining factor in this matter is the boundary of privacy. If your partner’s wishes do not respect your privacy, this could be a problem. The argument of ‘everyone is doing it’ on social media does not create a right over your personal preference. You can draw a clear line on this. However, it is also important to communicate well with your partner and try to understand their concerns; perhaps they want to share something with you.
I had also posted a photo of myself wearing a clay mask in my story, but I didn’t like it at all afterwards. People immediately make fun of it or comment things like “are you trying to create a style?” It seems like a simple thing from the outside, but it can really shake a person’s self-confidence.
@mehmetk we’re not talking about romance here, they’re saying that sharing something special is being pressured. Is someone going to be judged just because they didn’t post a story with a mask anymore? Just because something is trendy doesn’t mean everyone has to do it.
I swear, back in my day, being in a relationship was different. People didn’t feel the need to constantly watch each other. Privacy is valuable in a relationship; nowadays, young people feel like they have to share every moment, which seems really strange to me.
