My girlfriend's best friend is stalking me, what should I do?

For a few weeks now, my girlfriend's close male friend has been continually looking at my stories and liking things and so on. At first, I thought it was a coincidence, but I'm starting to feel uncomfortable about it now. Should I tell my girlfriend about this situation, or am I overreacting? Have you ever experienced something like this?

I had a similar situation too, but mine was about my girlfriend's female friend. She kept looking at her stories, liking them, and stuff. I mentioned it to my girlfriend, but it blew up unnecessarily. I just straightforwardly said, 'I'm uncomfortable' and solved it myself. Sometimes, communication is more practical in relationships.

Looking at these constant stories and the whole liking issue really stresses me out. I experienced something similar last month and directly DM'd him asking, 'Is something up? Do you want to ask me something?' He was surprised, but it was enough. I think before telling your partner, try to make your own boundaries a little clear.

So how close are you with your girlfriend? I mean, do they see each other all the time? Because these close friendships can sometimes get weird. Is the guy single, or what's his relationship status like? I think these are important too 😬

Now, there are two critical points in situations like this. If it has reached the discomfort threshold, the first step is direct communication. That means either you or your partner should talk openly with this person. The second step is if this situation continues and causes serious discomfort, it means a boundary violation is already starting. Then, clearer decisions should be made. But first, don't internalize it, express it.

Actually, the guy is single and he and my girlfriend used to stay in the same room a long time ago. But I mean, my girlfriend had never told me about such a pointless behavior from him. They don't usually meet often, but it seems like they've been seeing each other a bit more lately 😬

But I think what this guy is doing is a clear overstep. If he’s doing something that disturbs you and you’re experiencing it through someone in your life, think this way: If this guy has the right not to be disturbed, so do you. He might see you as an 'unreachable prize' unintentionally, the classic story. Convey this to your partner, explain it so that they can play a role in this too.

I think the topic might get to a point that feels really boring and ridiculous. I mean, the guy's issue might not even be secret admiration; he could just be someone who skips stories automatically, for instance? You feel that he's being irritating, sure, but it's likely that you're exaggerating a bit. Still, let's talk about it.

It seems to me that you may have a tendency to blow the story out of proportion a bit. If there’s trust between you and your girlfriend, you wouldn’t get so tense over a small dislike or something like that. Even if she doesn’t look at your stories, others will be looking instead. So what will you do then? Let’s not blow every stalk out of proportion.

Instead of complicating things by telling your girlfriend, you could just warn the guy with a DM or a little comment. Something like, 'Did you want to make a lasting impression with likes?'—a lightly sarcastic but measured remark. A clear expression will clear up the confusion.
