I took a photo of someone following me on the street and shared it on social media; was that a mistake?

Last evening, while returning from the market, someone started following me, literally counting my steps. I got uneasy, instantly took a picture of their face with my phone and shared it on social media. People were divided; some said, 'You did well, let this be a lesson,' while others said, 'You violated their privacy.' Do you think I acted correctly, or should I have gone to the police?

I had a similar experience; a guy kept sitting next to me on the subway. I took a photo and called the police right away, and it was resolved. Whether it's right to share it on social media is debatable, but I think things like that happen out of fear in the moment.

I really understand that fear. There's someone following you and you don't know what to do. I think it's great that you reacted right away, and besides you have evidence in hand. Maybe if you had supported it with a complaint, you could have completely stopped this person 😅

But let me ask this, were you really sure that you were following them? I’m not saying you did anything wrong, but sharing someone's face on social media is very critical. Could it be perceived as slander?

In the end, there are channels for complaints in such situations. You could have submitted the photo to the police as evidence. Sharing on social media can be problematic in terms of personal privacy, so one must be careful. The legal process would have been more solid.

Let me update you: That person is someone well-known in the neighborhood and has done things like this before. After the post, some people reached out to me saying he has been causing trouble. I'm seriously considering filing a complaint.

The main problem here is the possibility of being disturbed even while walking down the street. They say something about privacy, but what about your privacy? I think you should complain about the sharing, because if this behavior goes unpunished, it will continue.

This job is so complicated, you feel scared being followed and even when you react, the discussion doesn't end. I think it would have been better if you hadn't involved social media so much; I mean, such issues should be resolved in a legal setting.
