A month ago, I decided to do a detox because I was spending too much time on social media. However, at that moment, people started to write things like, ‘Why aren’t you posting stories, is there someone in your life?’ and showed more interest. Interestingly, doing the detox became more attention-grabbing. Is this normal, do you think I should continue?

7I’ve been through the same thing; I didn’t log into Instagram for about 2 weeks. During that time, even relatives started asking, ‘Is something wrong, why are you absent?’ People get uncomfortable when they see you, but they’re curious when you’re gone. I think you should keep going. After a while, they’ll get used to it.
I think you should keep up the story but occasionally text a few people on WhatsApp so they notice your absence and don’t start talking. That way, you can continue the detox without attracting too much attention ![]()
I swear, such things should be kept in moderation. People have become so accustomed to seeing this today that it’s normal for them to comment on whether someone has something going on in their life. I think this detox stuff is overly exaggerated. Moderating social media is good, but when it’s completely absent, such questions become inevitable.
In fact, the reason for this interest is that people’s attention focuses on you. The use of social media creates a kind of visibility balance. When you become quiet, this balance is disrupted, and you become noticeable. When you consistently maintain silence, the attention disperses. It is considered psychologically normal.
Reading these made me want to write. Actually, what bothers me is that when people constantly ask, ‘Is there someone in your life?’ it feels like gossip is going to circulate on the other hand. People’s interest turns into something exhausting. I don’t even know what to do.
I think it’s a bit confusing because of the environment. For example, in our class, they immediately ask those who don’t post stories, ‘Are you engaged?’ or something like that. Just relax, let people talk, and if you want, keep going quietly. The one who cares is actually you.
This curiosity and questioning is completely related to people not knowing boundaries. Not posting a story is not something that affects anyone’s life, but especially if you’re a woman, they seem to see poking into your private life as a right. It’s your decision, your time. Go ahead and don’t compromise.
