Is it wrong to respond to trolls on social media?

Recently, there’s been a troll on Instagram who keeps posting irrelevant things, even making ridiculous comments on my own photo. Is it more reasonable to stay silent, or should I not hesitate to say something to these types of people? Because it seems like they gain courage when you stay quiet. Have you ever experienced something like this, and how did you cope with it?

I had a similar type stalking me on Facebook for a while, commenting on every one of my photos with “filter or real?” At first, I replied, but then I realized the only purpose was to draw attention. I blocked them, and it felt so much better.

I know that feeling very well, you know, every time you get a notification your heart skips, wondering ‘what did they write now?’ But honestly, these types of people get bored when they don’t get attention. I think you should avoid getting involved :face_exhaling:

In digital communication, this is called feeding the troll. Psychologists say that these types thrive more on attracting negative attention. Apathy is the most effective method.

What kind of logic is this? You say they gain courage when we stay silent, so why aren’t you blocking them? They wouldn’t be able to comment again, and you could close the topic.

Let me add this: I thought about blocking, but this person is a friend of a mutual friend we know. So it’s a bit complicated, I’m hesitant to just block them because it might create an issue.

Dude, there was a kid in our class who was always writing ridiculous things on the girls’ stories. We gave him a harsh response once, and he never did it again. Maybe you should just confront him directly

There’s something else here. Why does it specifically pick on the photos? There might be someone interested in you, but they might be expressing it clumsily

Why are you even bothering with guys like this? Even if I said I’d report them to the prosecutor’s office, that would be too much. Just block them and move on, there’s no need to make it a big deal.
