I’ve been getting constant troll comments for a few weeks now. Some have even gone too far and sent me insults in private messages. I report them, but they keep going. On one hand, I have friends telling me to detox, and on the other hand, there are those saying, ‘don’t pay attention to them, just keep going.’ What do you think I should do? I can’t figure it out.
I totally experienced something similar. About 2 months ago, someone started insulting me in private messages too. At first, I kept reporting non-stop, but nothing was done about it. In the end, I made my account private, so only friends could send messages. After a while, he gave up anyway. I recommend you make your account private too.
Honestly, I find the whole shutting down social media thing unnecessary. Why withdraw because of their nonsense? I think you should ignore what they say and keep reporting. I believe if you ignore them, they’ll get bored.
So there are people in my circle who experience situations like this, and they usually prefer not to care. But in my opinion, it depends on the degree of these things. If the insults are severe, just block them; otherwise, I would say don’t take it seriously.
The purpose of troll accounts is to provoke the other person. The more reactions you give, the more they will continue. From a legal standpoint, if there are insults, threats, etc. in private messages, take screenshots and save them. You have the right to file a complaint with the prosecutor if necessary, but before that, you should try to report and block them.
Thank you all so much. By the way, they started opening new accounts after being blocked, and sometimes they write from there. That’s why I’m thinking of shutting it down completely. Maybe making it private could solve it, but I’m not very sure. How can we prevent them from opening new accounts?
The purpose of trolls is to exhaust you through effort. It’s not about women withdrawing from social media, but rather about silencing them. Their going this far is purely misogyny. I think you should act more strategically; if you throw your efforts away, you give them what they want.
I think there might be another situation. I mean, it’s weird to open a new account and start writing. Could it really be a troll or is it someone you know trying to annoy you? These things usually turn out to be someone familiar, so I suggest you investigate.
