Job opportunity abroad but my family says 'don't go'

A few months ago, I received positive feedback for an international position I applied for. The salary is good and it has been my dream for a long time, but my family is pressuring me to “Don’t go, stay here.” Should I not break their hearts, or should I pursue my own dreams? What would you do in this situation?

If I had a daughter, I would say the same thing, sorry, but the right thing is for you to stay here. Let’s say you went abroad, if something happened to you there, who would run to help? Your family is right, they are worried about you.

International experience greatly contributes to personal development, but it’s important to understand the concerns of your family. Maybe if you provide them with details about the process, their trust will increase a bit. For example, could you discuss guarantees with the workplace?

So I think if I were to go with my friend, I’d jump at the opportunity. But you’re alone, right? If so, it might be a little scary, but if it’s your dream, I say go for it. Opportunities like this don’t come around often

Honestly, I’m in favor of fitting in with the family. Dreams are great, but what happens if you end up alone and regretful? You talk about a nice salary and all, but can’t you live on less in Turkey?

I want to add this as well: my family usually doesn’t interfere much with my decisions, but for some reason, they are extremely sensitive this time. They keep saying, “that’s not suitable for you.” I tried to talk a little bit, but they aren’t convinced.

I think you should find a way to negotiate with your family. If you can talk to the company and set up a trial period for a few months, maybe they will be convinced. That way, they can also see that you’re serious.

I’m not talking about peer pressure or anything, but is it easy for a woman to be alone out there? Could your family be hiding something from you, have you ever asked? Sometimes you need to trust the elders :slightly_smiling_face:
