I've gone up to size 42, and my confidence has taken a hit

I used to wear a size 38-40, but now I'm up to 42, and honestly, I’ve become afraid to look in the mirror. Most of the clothes in my closet don't fit anymore, and I want to lose weight, but my motivation is at zero. Is there anyone else feeling like this or who has overcome this process? What should I do to get back on track?

I think you might be feeling down because most of those clothes are tight on you, so I’d advise you not to focus on them. When I went up to size 42, the first thing I did was go to a good tailor who made some clothes wearable again. If you decide to lose weight, you'll first be free from the stress of your clothes.

I can see that you're feeling down, so starting can be tough. I went to a dietitian last year and lost 2 dress sizes in 3 months. To be honest, the first week is hard, but as you keep going, you get used to it. Even if you can't do anything else, just cut out sugar and walk for an hour every day.

I definitely recommend getting a blood test first. Such a sudden change in the body could be related to thyroid issues or insulin resistance. Consider seeing an endocrinologist; you'll feel better health-wise and won't blame yourself for no reason.

Now let's be honest, if you're saying your motivation is zero, you've already thrown in the towel on this weight issue. Up until now, you've probably let yourself go a bit, and that's why you've unconsciously gained 42. Ask yourself clearly, without beating yourself up: What do you want? To lose weight or to accept your body as it is? Make a decision first.

First of all, thank you all. Let me add that I gained this weight over about a year, so it's not sudden, really. But honestly, I ate a lot of sweets, I'm aware of that. I haven't really had much of a sports background. I plan to start with daily walks and cutting out sugar.

So why is your motivation at zero? I mean, what’s holding you back right now? If you’re not even looking in the mirror, you should want things to get better. You either need to accept staying like this or take a step and change, I think you're stuck in between.

If your self-confidence is shaken because of your body, you are definitely not to blame. Society constantly pushes women to think they must 'always be slim.' You can look beautiful in looser clothes as well. Whether you look in the mirror or not shouldn't depend on your weight.

I was very uncomfortable when I went from 40 to 44, but then I realized that a big part of it is habits. I thought I couldn't do without sweets, but I cut them out and honestly felt more energetic in just a month. I suggest focusing more on the foods your body wants, rather than just the weight.

Dude, it's officially my last exam period! Late nights, junk food, and not moving at all, weight gain is inevitable. I think you should drag a friend out for a walk; it would be tough to do it alone. You can chat and get some exercise in too.
