Is silk underwear okay during menstruation?

It’s often said that we should always wear cotton underwear during our menstrual period, but some people claim there are also advantages to wearing silk underwear. Is there anyone among us who prefers silk? Do you think it’s a good choice in terms of hygiene? I’m quite confused.

Choosing cotton is what doctors emphasize the most. Because cotton breathes and doesn’t hold moisture. But if you’re going to wear silk, you need to be very careful; that means you may need to change it constantly. They are already shouting that hygiene is crucial during that period.

But you make a decision, are you asking about hygiene or comfort? There’s hardly anything that provides both at the same time. I don’t want to confuse you, but when you say silk, are you talking about 100% real silk? Because most of them turn out to be polyester that feels “like silk.”

From a vaginal health perspective, cotton is recommended because it reduces the risk of bacteria growing due to moisture. Silk is a natural material, but it doesn’t manage moisture as well as cotton. If you try it, you need to check constantly and make sure it stays dry. It would be beneficial to consult a specialist doctor.

Actually, I’m not sure what I mean by pure silk; it might be a polyester blend. I don’t even know what the difference is between the two. My mom keeps going on about cleaning for this reason, and I’m getting really confused.

So how often do you change your cotton underwear? I mean, if wearing silk is risky, then wearing the same cotton ones all the time wouldn’t make a difference either. I thought it might have to do with your routine.
