How important is our choice of underwear during our period?

I’ve been told that we should wear cotton, but sometimes I feel like I have to wear different things to look stylish. I feel uncomfortable, and it also seems a bit unhygienic to me. What do you do about this? Do you always pay attention to it, or do you make exceptions for special occasions?

I had the same experience; I had worn one of those lace-detailed ones instead of cotton for an event. The next day, I started itching, and I was a total wreck. The doctor said, ‘You’re more sensitive during your period; anything besides cotton poses a risk.’ Since then, I don’t take any risks.

What kind of logic is this? Would anyone put their health at risk just because there’s an urgent invitation? Can’t you find options that are both classy and healthy? Thinking this way, hygiene would be out of the question anyway.

Cotton is recommended because the body is more susceptible to infection during that period. Synthetic or lace detailed fabrics do not allow airflow and cause moisture buildup, which can lead to fungal infections. However, if there is a light lace and it is lined with cotton, it won’t be as problematic.

Let me add this too, normally I change my underwear regularly. But when I have my period, changing these pads turns into quite a hassle. I mean, cotton is comfortable, but with both the tightness and the constant changes, I get really stressed out

Cotton or synthetic, what matters is cleanliness. Making generalizations like ‘those who wear lace just because they are on their period are bad’ is unfair. With a little attention, there are no issues at all; after all, no one is an enemy of hygiene.
