My family is trying to guide me in my job choice

I was going to a job interview with my cousin, and my mom came along. While I was looking around, my mom said, "If you don't want to work here, there are others." Now I'm really confused; I don't want to apply for this job, but my family is insisting on supporting me. It feels like it would be a great sin to go against them.

my mom was like that too. one time when I applied for a job, she even pulled some strings, that much. but then I realized I was always going with what they wanted, I had given up the job I loved. I think you should talk about it openly 😐

Your family is the only one who really cares about you in the end. If you make a mistake, they'll be the ones to pick you up. So don't make a big deal out of it, just listen to your mom's advice 🤦‍♀️

Sure, family loves, but will everything be decided by them? If a person can't choose their own life, what meaning does it have? No offense to them.

to be honest, it's better to reject a job you don't want right from the start. once you're in, it's harder to get out, and family also becomes more dominant. be clear about it.

So why did you apply for this job? Did your family pressure you, or did you want it yourself at first?

@pazardandondum actually my mom brought it up at first. When I insisted a lot, I said 'maybe I'll try it', but deep down I never wanted to.

@kahvebitmeden you’ve romanticized the situation a bit too much. Yes, families make mistakes; but ruling over someone's life is another thing. Support and intervention are different.

I think if you don't want to go, don't go; there's no need to prolong it.

just tell your family to look for the job you really want. it's important to set boundaries from the start even when job hunting, otherwise they'll keep going like this 🫢
