My family doesn't want me to be with my girlfriend because of her salary, what should I do?

I've been with my girlfriend for 2 years, everything is going well, but my family started opposing when they found out her salary is low. They say, "He can't support you, this relationship won't work." But money isn't that important to me; I'm happy. How can I explain this to my family, or should I listen to them?

I honestly went through a similar situation. My partner was unemployed, and my family initially definitely did not approve. But I chose my happiness, and over time, his job got better, and my family accepted it. They are difficult to convince at first, but it's important for your partner to show effort.

I think you should speak openly. Calmly and logically explain that your happiness is more important to you. You might also consider sitting down with your family along with your partner; that way you can present a convincing stance.

Unfortunately, the expectations of families are a social reality. But let me say this, these kinds of issues are usually resolved during the times spent with your partner's family, through goodwill and future goals. It's important for them to show that there are other values besides the salary to your family.

So how does your girlfriend feel about this salary situation? I mean, no matter how much she loves you, isn't it going to be an issue for her? Because in the future, with marriage and kids, money will be needed after all 🤭

To be clear, in situations like this, a woman's income is overlooked while a man's salary is questioned. This double standard is exhausting me. If you are already maintaining your own economic independence, the family should not interfere; your life is yours.

Let me add some details, my love is actually a very hardworking person, but the salary is low. I mean, I think he will transition to a better job in the future. But my family can't really tolerate this 'waiting' situation. I've tried to talk to them, but they are still stubborn.

I think families must know something. After all, financial difficulties can ruin a relationship. They may be speaking so definitively because they are concerned about you.

Dude, I think things like this need to be sorted out between couples. When families get involved, everything becomes complicated. There was a couple like this in our friend group too, and it ended in a huge fight. Just be careful, you know.

When a person has the man they love on one side and is in conflict with their family on the other, they really don’t want that. I can feel them waking up in the morning, their heart tightening, thinking 'I wonder if this topic will come up again today.' I hope the person you love deserves this.
