The other day, I was sitting at dinner with my family, and my mom brought up my period. I think they believe that relatives shouldn’t be too intrusive, but it made me uncomfortable. Is it normal to talk about such a personal topic, or should there be boundaries?
You don’t talk about periods and stuff during dinner. It’s weird.
something similar happened to us too, let me put it this way, my mom speaks indirectly but she doesn’t go into details like that when my dad is around. It’s really uncomfortable.
How old are you and is it easy to talk about things like this at home? Does your mom bring up these topics?
@cokdaseyapma actually, my mom starts it more, but my dad sometimes gets involved too. I’m 17 by the way ![]()
Honestly, if you’re 17 and still say there’s a taboo about ‘talking about menstruation,’ that’s a bit strange. It’s a normal topic. It’s not embarrassing or anything.
Everyone has different boundaries when it comes to privacy, and it seems like there is a boundary conflict in your family. Menstruation is a natural thing, yes, but you should clearly state that you feel uncomfortable ![]()
I think you’re overreacting. Talking about periods is completely normal, even at the dinner table. The main thing that might be bothersome here could be your mother’s tone.
