My relatives are interfering with everything about my dating life

My cousin saw a photo of me with my girlfriend on Instagram the other day, and now all the relatives have found out. Everyone is saying something; they're questioning the distance, her family, her looks. But isn't this my life? How would you draw the line in such a situation?

I experienced something similar too. My cousin exaggerated my girlfriend's family's hometown and kept insisting, "Oh, oh, it’s a long-distance thing." I clearly said, "Let them not interfere with your business," and their faces fell a bit, but they fell silent 🙄

The incident started because they were making comments about my boyfriend's appearance. Since they didn't find him very handsome, they said things like "can't you find someone better?" I didn't say anything to their faces, but when I told my boyfriend about it, he seemed more confident, and then they stopped talking.

But why did all the relatives learn from just one photo? I mean, since you didn't feel the need to hide it, their comments are inevitable. Have you openly taken ownership of the relationship up to now? 😅

Such family interventions are generally a culturally deficient situation regarding respect for individual boundaries. Saying "This is my life" clearly draws a line, but you need to keep making the same explanations. Stay clear and assertive while being mindful of your tone.

Update: Actually, my relationship with my cousin is fine, but let's just say it blew up unintentionally. Just a comment under a photo was enough. Now they've even dragged my girlfriend's family into the gossip. Should I have just stayed silent? 😂

It's actually very normal for things to spread when shared on Instagram; even my relatives notice it directly. But after they say 'what do you care', we don't bother. Instead of deleting it, I think you should share more; they'll be quiet 🫠

If you ask me, their real issue is not your girlfriend, but your ability to make your own decisions. One person said, 'question this,' and the others seem to be hovering over you, as if they're keeping a lookout. It's like they're quietly monitoring you.

Honey, if my daughter were in a similar situation, I would say, 'not every piece of information is meant to be shared.' It's very common for relatives to stick their noses into such things. Try to cut it off from the start and either avoid answering every question or keep your responses short 😂
