My mom has told my dad that I am on my period

Last week, I had to tell my mom that I got my period because we ran out of pads at home. We usually don't talk about these things much, but that day I explained it clearly. Now at breakfast, my dad brought it up, "Your mom mentioned it, you've got your period," he said. I literally wanted to sink into the ground. I asked my mom why she shared something like that, and she replied, "What's wrong with that? He needs to know too." Do you think it's really normal? Should such things be discussed within the family? Did I feel embarrassed for no reason?

I think you're taking it too personally. Your dad hasn't said anything shameful, after all, these things should be discussed within your family, I believe. For example, my dad knows about stuff like this too, in fact, he's even brought home pads. Just know that he is someone supportive, don't take it the wrong way.

But why did your dad feel the need to bring this up at breakfast? Why say

@melikeaslan She said it as if it were such a normal thing, so it didn't seem like a big deal to her. But I really froze.

@elif34 are you serious? Not everyone's family is like yours. Nobody has to talk about this comfortably with their dad. Saying it at breakfast, like it's a joke, is especially uncomfortable 🙄

Actually, normalizing these kinds of conversations within the family is healthier. Having your period is a natural function of the body and not something to be ashamed of. It's troubling that your dad shared it in a strange way, but your mom's sharing may not have been malicious; it could just have been out of necessity.
