My mother's obsession with natural soap has ruined my skin...

When I was little, my mom always used natural soaps, and she didn't spend much money on skin care. Now because of this habit, I constantly have acne on my face. I'm going to the dermatologist, but my mom says it's because of "chemicals." Who should I listen to, my mom or the doctor? Or should I change my soaps?

I think natural soap doesn't seem like a big deal, but it might be related to your skin type. My mom used to make me use olive oil soap for years, and it really dried out my skin, for example. Could yours be something like that? Maybe it causes acne due to lack of moisture.

Honestly, I don't understand the part where your mom talks about 'chemicals.' The doctor is suggesting something and explaining it scientifically after all. My mom is also really into natural products, but sometimes you just have to listen to the doctor, at least for your skin. I think you should give it a try.

So, okay, the dermatologist is important, but as your mom said, some products really are very chemical-heavy. When it comes to natural soaps, maybe you could be using the wrong soap? I don't know, the one with olive oil is nice, for example, but bay laurel soap can dry out your face. I think you shouldn't completely disregard what your mom is saying.

In fact, acne may not only be related to soap. Some soaps disrupt the pH balance, creating a suitable environment for bacteria on your skin. Make sure to regularly use the products your doctor gave you, and I suggest trying a facial cleansing gel instead of soap. If you let me know which soap you're using, maybe we can provide a better comment.

I guess I haven't explained it very clearly. My mom usually used olive oil soap, and sometimes she would bring home ones that have herbal mixtures. Now the doctor has recommended things like aloe vera gel and moisturizer, but my mom still says, 'they're harmful.' I'm a bit confused.

I get it, but your mom raised you for years with natural soaps, and you must have seen the benefits. I've noticed that when people switch to chemical products, their faces end up ruined. I think you should listen to your mom; don't completely disregard the doctor either, but honestly, nothing beats natural products.
