My family expects me to be an engineer, but Iām interested in art. I feel like I have to fulfill their dreams. This is a huge pressure for me, and honestly, I donāt know what to do. What would you do in this situation?
my dad was similar too, he always used to say āget a tradeā. they are right in a way, but ultimately itās your life. right now, Iām working in a job I donāt like.
How old are you? Iām surprised by how involved your family is.
I am 22 years old, but I live with my family. I canāt be independent because of the economic situation.
@makarnaoncesi Iām sorry, but if youāre working at a job you donāt like, thatās your choice. Donāt blame your family or anyone else.
Family pressure is very common, especially if there is no economic independence. But if you have a career plan built around your creativity, you should have a concrete goal and examples to show for it. Otherwise, the word āartā can remain quite vague.
@kahvecakmasi can blame his family, but if he didnāt nag so much, maybe he would have found his own path.
this wonāt work under pressure.
You donāt want engineering, but what will you do with art? Do you have a plan, what will the money-making part be? Maybe thatās why your family has insisted so much. You canāt just say āI donāt want toā without any substance.
