Is childbirth very painful? I'm scared.

This is my first pregnancy and I'm only 8 weeks along. But I’m already panicking about the pain I’ll experience during childbirth. Everyone around me is telling different stories, some say it’s terrible, others say it’s normal. Should I really be this scared, or is it being exaggerated?

I was like you during my first pregnancy too; I had thoughts that felt like a nightmare. Some said the pain was too much, while others said it finishes quickly... But I gave birth normally with epidural anesthesia, and it wasn't at all like I feared. I think you should discuss this with your doctor.

What do you think about epidurals, or are you completely for natural birth? If there’s a lot of fear about pain, I recommend considering an epidural-supported normal birth, but make sure to decide this in advance with your doctor. You should also think about this when choosing which hospital to go to.

Honestly, fear is normal; it gets confusing hearing so many stories. But everyone's experience is unique. The only truth is this: every mother's threshold is different. Create a birth plan with your doctor, and don't get too caught up in those stories.

Doesn't thinking about the birth already and panicking like this increase your stress at just 8 weeks? The pregnancy process is already quite a unique experience, have you thought about putting this off a bit and focusing on the other stages instead?

While labor pain varies from person to person, modern medicine offers many ways to manage it. Epidural, spinal anesthesia, or prenatal breathing exercises are just a few of these methods. If you focus more on these techniques rather than the intensity of the pain, you may feel better prepared.

Don't even respond to those who try to scare you with stories. A woman's fertility power is constantly questioned, and they should focus on providing support rather than causing fear. The difficulty of childbirth may not be a reflection of your weakness, but rather a result of the burdens placed on you by your surroundings.

I realized that childbirth isn't actually as scary as I thought when I was with my wife during her delivery. It's mostly that initial tension that wears you out. If you have a partner, offer your support, don't let them feel alone 😅

Thank you for the comments, my mind was really overwhelmed. I will ask my doctor about the epidural right away. Is it enough to just try the breathing exercises, or do I definitely need medication?

I must also say that for someone who is 8 weeks pregnant, focusing directly on the scariest stage feels a bit like overreacting. If you stress out this much instead of enjoying the pregnancy, you might actually be making the process more difficult.
