My wedding was postponed due to my cousin's illness

My cousin has fallen seriously ill, and because of that, I've postponed my wedding. I've been waiting for that day for months, but now I can't make a decision right away. I really wanted to have a wedding, but my family wants to be with my cousin. What should I do?

something similar happened in our family. They said we are postponing my cousin's wedding due to my uncle's cancer diagnosis, but in the end, it dragged on for a year. Things got really complicated. I think you should talk about a definite date; otherwise, the family can always find something to complain about.

How serious is your cousin's illness? I mean, will the treatment process take a long time?

@iki_dakika they said the treatment will be tough. The family is very anxious, that's why they don't want the wedding to happen now.

@camkenari I think you're not right about this specific date issue. When it comes to a serious illness, people stop making plans. I believe even weddings seem less important to them.

Honestly, this is somewhat of a cultural issue. Collective events like wedding postponements greatly impact family dynamics. Everyone's sensitive side is different. I think if you sit down and talk with your family and express how being caught in the middle affects you, you can come to a healthier decision. However, getting guidance from a therapist would also be a good idea.

@pazardandondum are you serious? Is it something to be discussed when the family is already in pain? Should I even think about having my wedding?

this title is a very personal topic anyway. everyone is saying 'in my opinion' but I think you shouldn't hurt the family more in the long run 😅

They said the treatment would be tough, so did they specifically ask you for anything to support the family during this process? I mean, aside from postponing the wedding, do you have any responsibilities you need to take on? In some cases, non-wedding matters can create an even bigger crisis.
