Is my spouse right to suggest nose surgery?

My nose has never really bothered me, but my wife said that a more refined nose would make my face stand out more. Honestly, I had never thought about it, and now every time I look in the mirror, I think ‘maybe she’s right,’ but I’m also scared. With both the surgery and the results, I’m not feeling very at ease. She said, ‘It’s up to you, but it will be amazing,’ but is it really right to make such a big decision based only on her opinion? Do you think something like this can be thought about and done that simply?

I don’t think such a decision can be made easily, but it seems like your partner doesn’t want anything bad. I mean, they’ve cared about you and want to highlight your beauty even more. It’s normal to be afraid of surgery, but if your partner will be supportive during this process, it can be considered. Of course, this is if they aren’t someone who talks and then leaves you alone. You need to clarify if they will be by your side during this process.

I swear, I once had a friend who said to me, ‘You should fix your eyebrows,’ and I did it just so they wouldn’t say anything. I wasn’t happy at all. My eyebrows ended up being completely straight, and I really miss how they used to be. So my advice to you is, if you want to do it, do it for yourself; if you don’t want to, don’t stress about it.

You have some blame in this as well, to be honest. At first, you say “I wasn’t bothered,” but when your partner mentions it, you immediately start thinking about it. If you’re worried about things like this, why don’t you clarify your thoughts from the beginning? When someone opens a door to their partner, this is what happens.

A valid point. But remember, the happiness that comes from cosmetic surgery may not be permanent. It’s good if the desire comes from within you, but if it’s done just to please someone else, it might lead to unhappiness later. Also, make sure to communicate your expectations with your partner from the start. If one day you bring it up with a small event by saying ‘I did this for you,’ it could hurt you.

@kadir_kiymetci well, let me put it this way: you can easily highlight your facial features with clothes and such without needing a refined nose. Aesthetic procedures are not always the solution; it’s often overemphasized. Try a few different hairstyles or accessories first; maybe your partner won’t even notice your nose. Not everything requires such big decisions.

What really matters here is this: why is your partner saying this? Is it because they genuinely think something good for you, or are they trying to mold you into the woman of their dreams? You should question this. Out of the blue, a person doesn’t just say to someone, ‘let’s change the frame of your face’ or something like that. There’s always a possibility of manipulation.

@feminist actually, I don’t think it’s quite like you said. At first, he was jokingly saying things like “your nose is hiding your beauty” and I didn’t pay much attention. But then he started talking seriously. I didn’t feel manipulated, but his getting so close feels weird to me.

@soran I don’t have a very clear feeling about this, but does your spouse spend a lot of time on social media? There might be someone or something they draw inspiration from. You know, when someone constantly shares ‘before/after’ posts, it can influence your spouse too. Seeing a visible change can be interesting to people.
