My roommate made fun of my soap

My roommate noticed the yellow soap I use in the bathroom. Yesterday, while I was in the kitchen, she jokingly asked, "Did your boyfriend get this for you?" without any explanation. I laughed it off at the moment, but the more I thought about it, the stranger I felt. Now I’m afraid to leave anything in the bathroom. Is this a boundary violation, or am I overreacting?

I think it's a very strange situation. I also felt uncomfortable when I noticed that my roommate was using my hair cream for a while. But making fun of the soap seems downright disrespectful.

You haven't reacted at all there, do you usually stay silent about things like this? Maybe you're continuing to do this because you can't set boundaries 🫠

@soncaykaldi isn’t actually doing something like this for the first time; they had commented on my other belongings as well, but I had brushed it off. This time, I think I took it more personally 😬

@makarnaoncesi I don't think it's something to make a big deal out of. There can be small jokes at home, maybe you took it too seriously 😂

this is completely a matter of respecting personal space. boundary violations are very common and significant in roommate relationships. it may be good to clearly express to the other party that you feel uncomfortable.

Didn't it seem strange to you that a crisis arose out of this? You've been really focused on it.

Did your friend say this directly to your face or in the group? I thought maybe they were trying to lighten the mood.
