Walking around with a towel, he said, 'I'm flaunting my vibe.'

We are trying to establish a proper order with the girls, but this new friend seems a bit too comfortable. She walked past with her towel from the bathroom and said, 'Step back a bit, I'm airing out.' I laughed at first, but then I sat down and thought about it, how normal is this? Do you think it's a joke or disrespectful to privacy? I felt uncomfortable, but I didn't react.

If you ask me, the issue might lie in your perspective. The girl made a joke, and you even laughed at first. Why did you start to feel uncomfortable afterwards? If you had reacted right away, maybe the issue wouldn’t have escalated this much. Sometimes people can’t predict that what they say will be understood differently. Don't make such a big deal out of it.

Oh yeah, situations like this can really stress a person out. My old roommate used to constantly comment on my body, saying he was just joking, but it really bothered me. When people don't respect your privacy, you can feel uncomfortable even in your own home. I think you should clearly express your discomfort.

What kind of logic is this? How do you connect saying "I'm showing off" with a violation of privacy? It has turned into a completely unnecessarily serious matter. @ozguven_kirilgan you have literally combined your personal issues with this example; maybe for the girl, it was just a joke.

Come on, if your parents lived in that house, would they act like this? Everyone has their own culture and all, but living with roommates requires a certain decorum. I can’t accept such a casual attitude. In our family, this kind of looseness would be frowned upon 🙄

First, I will ask this: Does this girl act like this in other situations as well? I mean, is she always relaxed, or was this just a one-time thing? Because if it has become a habit, we need to talk about it.

@sorgulayan Yes, actually, she had made double jokes while cooking before, but it was always in a light-hearted way. Now that I think about it, she always has this relaxed vibe.

This last detail you provided clarifies the situation. Comfort does not grant the right to violate others' boundaries. If they keep making jokes like this and you're uncomfortable, make your boundaries clear. Consent is important not only in physical contact but also in everyday dialogues like this.

Exactly, you start to feel like you're constantly in defensive mode after a while. After all, it's your own home, and you have the right to feel comfortable. It feels exhausting to encounter such energy as soon as you open your eyes in the morning.
