If I give my brother money, can I get it back?

My brother said he urgently needs money, but I had lent him money before and he didn’t pay me back. Now he’s coming to me again. What should I do? I’m really afraid of giving him money, but his troubles also affect me. What do you think?

I don’t understand why you’re still trusting someone like that.

I lent him money once, and since that day, there has been no issue about money between us. It was a real lesson.

Have you thought about making a contract or something for this second loan? Or something legal?

@yazipsildim We hadn’t talked about the previous debt at all, this time I mentioned something like a notary, but he didn’t take it seriously.

I disagree with @biseydiycem’s comment. When it comes to family, things get more complicated; you can’t just cut ties immediately.

You might be lending money to your brother trusting him, but there is a legal aspect to it. Set a condition for a notary and at least make a written agreement. Having a friend as a guarantor actually makes sense too.

Could it be that he sees this not as an urgent matter, but as a habit because he hasn’t repaid his previous debt? You need to understand whether the issue is just financial, or if he has a general problem with money management. Otherwise, this cycle will continue.

Is the previous debt still standing? If they are asking for money again without paying that off, let that debt fall and forget about what they will give you next. If they really intend to pay back, they won’t object anyway.
