My mother-in-law recommended therapy, out of the blue?

Yesterday, while I was sitting with my mother-in-law, out of the blue she said, "So-and-so is a really good therapist, I have his card, I can give it to you if you want." I couldn't understand why she said something like that. Actually, my relationship with my spouse is good, and we haven't had a major argument with my mother-in-law either. But this suggestion made me think a lot. Does she think something is wrong, or is she just taking a jab at me? I hesitated to ask because I might blow it out of proportion and it could become an issue for my spouse.

I think it's a simple suggestion. For example, my mom constantly shares things she hears from others like this. There's no need to load it with meaning. I think if the woman had bad intentions, she would do something more direct 🤔

I'm not asking for a purpose, but has anything happened recently? Like, were you angry, did you say something that implied something? 😐

@kahvebitmeden that's not true, nothing happened. In fact, we are in a quieter period than usual. That's why this suggestion seemed a bit strange.

If you were feeling this weird, you should have just asked directly. Otherwise, you'll have no idea why you made such a suggestion 😬

In psychology, there is something we sometimes refer to as 'projection'. They may have been suggested therapy, which could be directing this situation towards you. I think you could engage in a dialogue about this thoughtfully, without being hurtful.

@benbisorayim But if therapy had been suggested to the original poster, they would have mentioned it themselves, right? It seems illogical to me to shift the therapy issue directly onto someone else.

@yazipsildim if this is about reflecting this onto someone else, isn't direct open communication possible? Constant indirect ways feel so passive-aggressive to me.

Did an interesting event happen before this suggestion? For example, a situation where he/she saw you very stressed, etc.?
