A former friend of mine messaged me like that on DM as well. They clearly said they liked me. I felt pretty weird about it, but then when we talked face to face, I saw they were being sincere. I wouldn't recommend deleting them right away; first, find out their intentions.
If this kid is your high school friend, you probably know him, what kind of guy is he? Has he ever done something that showed he liked you before?

@soncaykaldi it might be friendly, but I think writing in DMs smells a lot like cowardice. One should talk face to face; can you really solve things over messages?

@yazipsildim not everyone has the courage to talk face to face like you do, or maybe they just don't have the opportunity, so why judge directly?
If you think you should respond, ask about the intention, so don’t get into a lot of empty talk. If you’re clear, you won’t feel uneasy. If not, you just end the topic.
