The hairstylist said it looked great, but I wasn't convinced

I went to dye my hair, asking for a light shade on the ends, and they literally dyed my hair a completely different color from root to tip. At first, I was upset, but my hairdresser praised it so much saying "it looks great" that I became unsure. Should one listen to themselves or trust the advice of a professional? What would you do in this situation?

Last year, I asked for a yellow ombre and suddenly it turned into platinum blonde. At first, I was shocked, but then after looking at it closely, I actually liked it. Maybe over time you'll get used to it too; I think you should observe yourself in the mirror a bit 😅

If you're not feeling it, I think you should just say so. After all, if you're not happy, what's the point? Just saying 'it looks good' doesn't cover the responsibility; you can say you requested a correction 🥲

I was wondering, when you said you wanted a shadow on the tips, what exact color did you mean? There might have been a miscommunication. Did you show a model, or did you just describe it?

Sometimes hairdressers are overly confident in their own experiences and take too much ownership of the right to guide their clients. In this case, the real issue is that both parties need to be clear. Your preferences should be clear, and the hairdresser's response should balance that. If you feel that you are being pushed towards an outcome you don’t want, express it openly.

I actually showed a few photos for the shadow, but she said that wasn't quite applicable. Then she said, 'let's make these tones suitable for that,' but it turned out to be a completely different color. To be honest, I felt a bit misled at that moment.

To be honest, it felt to me like the hairdresser kind of convinced you to go along with their work. Maybe they realized that they couldn't achieve exactly what you wanted with the dye or technique they had. Isn't that a bit strange?

There is a serious issue in this matter: Consent. It is a serious problem when the hairstylist acts with an "I know better" attitude without understanding what you want or obtaining your approval. If the request is not clear, they should not proceed; after all, it's your hair and your right.

I think it's also a bit your fault. Since you realized from the beginning that a different color was chosen, you should have said 'no' at that moment. If you had made it clear from the start that you didn't want it, it wouldn't have gone this far.
