Last week I went to the hairdresser to shorten my hair a bit to shoulder length, but the woman cut it in a bob. My boyfriend got really angry, saying long hair is prettier. Now I feel bad about it and also feel guilty because of him. I tell myself that hair grows back, but it feels like this incident has broken something inside me. How can I recover from this?

7It happened to me too. It was 3 years ago, the hairdresser gave me a bob cut and I went crazy at first. But interestingly, everyone loved it so much that it lifted my spirits. Maybe your partner will like it once they get used to it, who knows?
I’m really in touch with that feeling. Looking in the mirror at my new cut just made me feel like, ‘Is this really me?’ It was seriously breaking me apart. But like you said, hair grows back. Have you tried to style that bob a bit to pull it together?
If you had just listened a little bit, right? When talking to your partner, if you had said, ‘I want to shorten it a bit, but is the long version still important to you?’ this wouldn’t have happened. If you made the decision alone, then bear the consequences a bit.
The hair growth process varies from person to person, but you can say it averages about 1-1.5 cm per month. During that time, you might consider options like getting hair extensions or strengthening your scalp with natural oils. Also, if there’s a vitamin deficiency, it can make recovery more difficult.
I’m adding this, the relationship has officially gotten seriously strained for the first time. I don’t know if it’s because of the long hair obsession or the control issue, but he instantly said to me, ‘long hair is feminine, what’s this?’ and left with a frown. I just felt bad.
Sorry, but what does ‘long hair is feminine’ even mean? Is femininity measured by hair length? This debate is more about your discomfort than her opinion. Discuss how much decision-making power you have for yourself.
It seems like it’s become an interesting discussion topic. But let’s clarify this; as someone who loves long hair, I understand your partner. However, the decision is yours, not theirs. Yet, ‘interestingly’ both sides have been hurt, and the problem seems to stem from something else.
