The hairdresser cut my hair too much, I literally cried

I went to get my hair cut at shoulder length, but the hairdresser ended up giving me a bob! It was seriously like a joke. All my confidence is gone; I've had long hair for as long as I can remember and I can't get used to it. My friends say, 'It looks great, it's totally in fashion,' but that doesn't comfort me. Am I exaggerating? What do you do in situations like this? Can I quickly grow it out with a hair mask or something?

I've been through the same thing. Last year, I asked for shoulder-length hair, but they cut it to ear length. I literally couldn't look in the mirror on the first day. But after about two weeks, as people around me kept saying 'you look so cool,' I got used to it. I think you should give yourself a little time.

I was angry at my hairdresser last time because they cut too much, so I tried to make it grow quickly with serums and such. There's that castor oil sold in stores, right? I was massaging with those, it got a bit more comfortable but unfortunately, it doesn't grow that fast. Patience will be needed.

But did you clearly indicate that you wanted shoulder length? Or did the hairdresser just go off on their own saying something like "leave it to me"? It seems there was a bit of a communication error here. I think you need to develop a clearer language when communicating with your hairdresser 😳

There are popular products on the market for hair growth, but their scientific effectiveness is quite limited. A protein-rich diet, biotin supplements, and regular scalp massages are recommended for healthier hair growth. Consulting a dermatologist would be a more appropriate approach.

Let me add this; I had also taken a photo to show the hairdresser, especially to indicate the shoulder length. She said things like "no, this wouldn't suit your face, let's go for a bob, it will be better" but when I said "I think this looks nice," I didn't argue further. Now I deeply regret it.

Did you ask if the hairdresser showed any regret or apologized while doing this? My hairdresser immediately compensates or gives some gift products if he does something wrong. Didn't anything like that happen at your hairdresser?

In my environment, especially if you're married or engaged, cutting your hair short is often misinterpreted. They say hair is a woman's ornament. I think hairdressers should be more careful about these things; they've upset you and haven't considered how it will be perceived by others.

The main issue here is the violation of your boundaries. No matter what, it's your hair and the style you want should be done, not based on their preferences. This is completely a service for which you've put in effort and paid money. It's very natural for you to feel bad; you are right.

I completely understand that feeling of losing self-confidence. You know, when you wake up in the morning and look in the mirror, it feels like you're looking at a stranger… I used to isolate myself for days when it happened to me, I couldn’t even look. But after a while, you start saying 'this is my new style,' and you eventually get used to it.
