I went to the hairdresser because of the broken parts I couldn’t get rid of; I asked for shoulder-length, but the woman cut it really short, to below my ear. I literally can’t recognize myself in the mirror! How can I fix this? Do you think I should intervene myself, or should I wait for it to grow out?

6I’ve experienced this too; you literally end up feeling like a stranger in the mirror. I once tried to fix it myself, and it turned out worse. I think you shouldn’t touch it at all because it needs to grow out properly. Maybe you can get help from another hairdresser, but make sure they really know what they’re doing 
It’s ridiculous for the hairdresser to misunderstand when we say shoulder length! They shouldn’t be doing that because we already say it clearly. But if they cut it really short, there’s nothing you can do but wait. Once it grows out, you can style it nicely 
It seems like a bit of the blame is on you too. Did you explain in detail what you wanted to the hairdresser? I mean, they might have misunderstood the shoulder length; if you had shown a clear visual, it probably wouldn’t have turned out this way.
It’s normal to have such strong reactions about hair, but the main issue here is the healthy growth of your hair. Your own intervention might lead to incorrect results. If you’re very uncomfortable, you might consider using hair care oils or biotin during this period. However, seeing a dermatologist for support is a more guaranteed approach.
I want to add: I actually showed the photo, I said like this and that, but still, he cut it that short. Also, while he was cutting me, he kept talking to other customers, as if he couldn’t pay attention.
It made me think: Did the hairdresser cut it differently for someone else? I mean, could they have confused you with another customer? Then maybe they realized and continued inconspicuously. Because it can’t be explained any other way to cut it so unrelated.
