My cousin shared an old photo of me and made fun of it

My cousin took an old childhood photo of mine just for fun, posted it as a story, and wrote something mocking over it. The family group has already seen it, a few people found it funny, but honestly, I didn't like it much. I'm not really someone who uses social media often, so this seemed like a little joke to him. I talked to him about it, but he brushed it off saying, "you're overreacting." What would you do if you were in my place?

I had a similar incident happen to me. You see, an old friend found my childhood dance video, which was something we had during weddings and such. Then, they put it on their story with the caption 'who's who'. I felt uneasy back then too because I was never someone who shared Instagram with everyone. I directly talked to them and asked them to take it down. They laughed it off at the time but did remove it. I think your cousin might understand if you talk to them in the same way, but saying 'you're overreacting' is not nice. These kinds of things are personal; if you don't want it, there's no need for it.

@s3lenaya Yeah, actually it's not the first time. Strange things like this have happened before, but usually they were done in a private group. This time, since it spread to the family group, it annoys me even more.

@elifcik I don't agree with what you wrote. I don't think there's anything that needs to be blown out of proportion here. After all, it's just a story; it'll be deleted and gone. There's no need to ruin your relationship over it. Don't be so sensitive.

This kind of behavior actually falls into the realm of boundaries. On social media, it has sometimes become an accepted notion that we should tolerate jokes, but not every joke is a joke for everyone. Expressions like 'You're overreacting' belittle a person's boundaries. You should have an open conversation with them and express that you don't feel comfortable; if they don't understand, you should distance yourself. If you push it, it will create more problems.
