It’s been said that I will be promoted due to my performance at work for a while now, but they still haven’t given a definite date. This uncertainty really bothers me, and I’m afraid of losing my job. What do you think I should do to get this promotion? I’m really worried, and being in the dark is eating me up inside.
I had the same situation at my workplace. They promised a promotion two years ago, but I was kept waiting for 8 months. During that time, they assigned me extra workload, but I didn’t get anything in return. It’s pointless to wait without speaking openly; just go and ask directly.
How long have you been waiting like this? I mean, has it been 1-2 months since it was said, or has it been longer? ![]()
@cokdaseyapma It’s been over 4 months, they act like there’s a connection in every conversation, but there’s no exact date.
@makarnaoncesi I find this ridiculous; they may not have even made a clear promise. Perhaps they’re still measuring the performance?
The most critical thing in internal promotions is open communication. Instead of vague expressions like ‘stay on top of things every day,’ you can ask for a written plan. Leaving you in uncertainty during these processes is the employer’s responsibility, not yours.
It seems like the balance of power isn’t entirely in your favor. You don’t have to accept uncertainty. Either ask for a date or start considering other job alternatives.
I think there’s a problem. Otherwise, they would have mentioned the date long ago.
I think there’s something else going on here. They might be comparing with someone or they might be sharing the promotion with someone. Keep your eyes peeled ![]()
When writing about this topic, it would have been clearer to elaborate more on your boss’s “follow the day” remark. If they’ve been talking about something so vague consistently, they are already showing their intention.
Maybe they’re waiting for the budgeting of that position instead of for a promotion? Some companies stall to get the money in order when creating a new position. Have you ever thought about it from this perspective?
I also have this question: Is the promotion certain? I mean, did the boss explicitly say, “we will promote you,” or is the topic being handled with just vague gestures? There’s a big difference in between.
