My girlfriend said, 'Don't pay that much for this dress'

A close friend of mine is getting married and I don't even have a single outfit. I found a very elegant dress at a store we went to, but the price was a bit above average. When my boyfriend said, "Are you really going to spend that much money?" the atmosphere became tense. Now I'm wondering if buying something that expensive would be selfish. Do you think he was right, or did he speak too harshly?

I found myself in a similar situation where I bought the dress, but then in a strange way, she kept bringing it up. "You spent this much money, after all." So it can have a cooling effect. I'd say be careful 😬

How much did your girlfriend say it with emphasis, as if the issue is about money or something else? Like jealousy?

@uzaksanat I don't think it's out of jealousy. It seemed more like a "unnecessary spending" mindset. But we didn't really talk much about it anyway 🫠

@zehirkusagi I think your story is a bit different. If the guy keeps bringing it up, the issue is with you, not the price of the dress.

Let me put it this way, spending on rare events like weddings is not abnormal. But if it's straining your monthly budget, you need to discuss this together. Financial balance is an important issue for couples.

I think it's more about the person's "my way or the highway" attitude that's annoying than the actual expense. The issue could unintentionally shift from the outfit to a matter of control 🙂

I would take it, the wedding is a special day.
