Is my partner checking on me, are they jealous?

I've been together with my boyfriend for 2 years, but lately, some things have been bothering me. For example, yesterday we argued for hours because I liked a photo of a male friend. He says, 'I'm just thinking about you, trying to protect you,' but sometimes this attention feels a bit controlling. Do you think this is normal or a toxic situation? Honestly, I'm conflicted and I need your opinions.

I experienced the same thing. For 2 years, I put up with his mood swings just because he said, 'I'm protecting you.' It turns out he was constantly trying to control me. In the end, he even got upset over a message from a coworker of mine; I said 'okay' and I broke up with him. I think you should be careful, this has gone beyond jealousy.

These things usually start as a small nuisance but then grow. My ex used to say, 'I'm meddling for your own good.' But after a while, he was even interfering with how I dressed. If you feel like your freedom is being restricted, talk about it; if it doesn't get resolved, seriously consider your situation.

In such situations, excuses like "I'm protecting you" can actually be part of a control mechanism. So, while it may seem like jealousy, it can carry manipulative traits. Jealousy is a more spontaneous emotion, whereas manipulation typically reveals itself through ongoing behaviors. Still, consulting a specialist is the best approach for a definitive diagnosis.

Let me add this, I told him, 'You're pushing me so much, it's making me sad.' He responds with things like 'You don't understand me' and somehow blames the whole situation on my mistake. So we can't have any solution-focused conversation. I don't even know what to say anymore.

But now, there is a limit to liking photos, you know. You need to respect your partner. Speaking from my perspective, if my partner casually liked a photo of a male friend, I would feel uncomfortable too. After all, the guy might be worried about what his surroundings think, so don't jump to calling it toxic right away.

Sit down and speak openly by saying, "I think I feel this way." See if they back down or if they say more ambiguous things. If they still make you feel guilty, suggest going to couples therapy with them. If they refuse, I think it's time to reassess the relationship.

Man, what's up with this 'protection' excuse? What's it got to do with liking a photo? By that logic, should they worry about someone walking next to you outside too? They don't even trust themselves. If they don't want to be jealous, then why act like this? Does it really bother people? I'm really reactive about this.
